Measure beans (marrowfat are best), put them in cold water and parboil fifteen minutes and drain; use the Boston bean pot.
In bottom of bean pot place the onion and a piece of salt pork.
Wash beans and get them into boiling salted water, in the bean pot, as quickly as possible.
Mix browned flour, tomato and salt, put into bean pot with the nuts and a large quantity of boiling water.
Put half the salt pork or bacon in bottom of bean pot or baking dish, add the beans and top with remainder of pork or bacon.
Two hours before the beans are done, strain the tomato into the bean pot, adding a little at a time.
But before putting them in there, peel an onion and slice it, placing the slices in the bottom of the bean pot.
