The Prickly-fruited sculus has nearly ripened its nut, Zanthoxylon clava herculis, in fruit, a "wild gourd" not in flower.
Variations of the kind we are considering are also observable in the clava, or knob, in which antenn often terminate.
The finest examples were at clava, seven miles from Inverness, where fifty years ago there were eight still in existence.
