one of the Egyptians who "withstood Moses" (2 Tim. 3:8).
Lastly, jannes might come from a Hebrew root which means to seduce, and Jambres from one which means to rebel.
Like as jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth.
Now as jannes and Mambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.
We shall now consider, in the second place, the opposition of "jannes and Jambres," the magicians of Egypt.
The mode in which "jannes and Jambres withstood Moses" was simply by imitating, as far as they were able, whatever he did.
Moses, we are informed, produced a large reptile; jannes and Jambres produced a small one.
