In confinement, larv hatched in early May have gone down to pupate during the second week in June.

After the last moult they ascend the trees, remain feeding for a short while, then go down to the ground to pupate.
The larvae then bore their way out of the fruit and drop to the soil where they pupate.
Some few leave their feeding place and pupate after traversing a short distance (Eristalis).
As soon as the larv have completed their development they pupate.
The fully-developed larv drop to the ground, which they enter, and there pupate.
That caterpillar did not, however, pupate, or survive the winter.
The larv feed upon the foliage until about July first and then crawl to the ground in which they form cells and pupate.
When ready to pupate they go a short distance into the ground.
