Fancy dress has changed a lot over time, but this word hasn’t stopped being fun to use.

Bedizen entered the English language in the 17th century and is an obsolete term with a complex etymology. It’s a derivative of the even more uncommon verb dizen, which related to the spinning of flax to make clothing.
