Tarim Basin

a region in W China between the Tien Shan and Kunlun mountain ranges. About 350,000 sq. mi. (906,000 sq. km).

Desert heat naturally mummified hundreds of bodies buried in western China’s Tarim Basin from roughly 4,000 to 1,800 years ago.

The Tarim basin may well have been a great lake surrounded by a zone of garden instead of the sandy waste which it is to-day.

The Tarim basin, though sometimes united under foreign rule, had no indigenous national unity.
