The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.
Stephen Parkinson, the head of the Crown Prosecution Service, wrote in a letter to lawmakers that his agency had tried over several months to get a government statement to attest that China was a threat to national security at the time of the alleged offenses, but never got a response to that effect.
He said the Crown Prosecution Service had made "efforts to obtain" further evidence from the government "over many months" but that the witness statements provided did not meet the threshold needed to continue with the prosecution.
"I have no question that the Crown Prosecution Service made this decision independently," she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme earlier.
"Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are increasingly being used by organised criminals to disguise and transfer assets, so that fraudsters may enjoy the benefits of their criminal conduct," said Robin Weyell, deputy chief Crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service.
