Savonarola, Girolamo

  1. An Italian religious reformer of the fifteenth century. Savonarola spent most of his career in Florence, Italy, where his fiery oratory whipped up popular fervor against corruption of church and state. He was eventually convicted of heresy and hanged and burned.
