1. any of several tall hardwood trees of the genus Platymiscium, native to tropical America, having pinnate leaves, and, especially in some species, aromatic reddish-brown wood of significant commercial value.
2. Also called Panama redwood. the wood of such a tree, especially of Platymiscium pinnatum, used for building and furniture.
