  1. a person who holds a flag at the approach to a road construction site or other traffic obstruction and signals motorists to slow down or stop, or to proceed when it is safe to do so.

  2. Often, trusted flagger. a person who monitors online content for a site, platform, company, etc., and identifies and reports any that is suspicious or does not comply with laws, rules, or guidelines.

  3. a person on a racetrack who seeks to maintain a clear course for drivers, alerts them to any obstacle or adverse condition by means of a flag, and keeps race officials continuously informed of any such issues on the course.

  4. a railway worker who uses a flag to signal train operators to stop when there is work being done on the track ahead.
