1. A twentieth-century British playwright who was born in Czechoslovakia. He first achieved acclaim with his Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead, which featured Hamlet's “attendant lords,” hilariously alone and adrift on an unknown stage. His other works include Jumpers and Travesties.
