zit vs. pimple: What's the difference?

Zit is a common slang term for pimple—a small skin blemish caused by acne, a skin condition in which skin glands become clogged and inflamed. Zit is used informally. Dermatologists (skin doctors) are more likely to use technical terms for specific kinds of pimples, such as pustule and papule.
