Apple’s original astonished face emoji had X-shaped eyes, making it easily mistaken for the dizzy face emoji, 😵, until it gave it more oval-shaped eyes and added some teeth to its slack jaw. No one is quite sure what emotions Google and Samsung were going for in their early versions. Google’s looked drunk and Samsung’s seemed to have delirious rage. All the major platforms have brought their design for astonished face emoji in line with Apple’s wide eyes, raised brows, and mouth agape now though, as shown in the screenshot from Emojipedia below.
