Where does 🥗 Green Salad emoji come from?
The green salad emoji was first tossed in 2016 under Unicode 9.0. It joined a long list of other healthy options, including the avocado emoji 🥑, the carrot emoji 🥕, and the cucumber emoji 🥕.
Across platforms, the green salad emoji depicts a simple salad in a white bowl with lettuce, tomatoes, and other vegetables, such as cucumbers, onions, and black olives, as the screenshot from Emojipedia shows below.

In the above screenshot, you might note a hardboiled egg in Google’s design. In June 2018, Google removed that egg. One of Google’s UX managers, Jennifer Daniel, joked that the decision was meant to be more inclusive of vegans, though apparently the change was made to be more in line with the Unicode description of the emoji. People were opinionated about the loss of the egg … let’s just leave it at that.
There’s big talk about inclusion and diversity at Google so if you need any evidence of Google is making this priority may I direct your attention to the 🥗 emoji— we’ve removed the egg in Android P beta 2, making this a more inclusive vegan salad. pic.twitter.com/kzHY0A9ZjG

As we’ve seen with the eggplant 🍆 and peach emoji 🍑, the green salad emoji readily lent itself to sexual innuendo, specifically “tossing someone’s salad,” slang for stimulating someone’s anus since the 1970s.
