Often, the point of an anti-bride wedding is to be unique to the couple hosting it. As such, an anti-bride wedding may have the bride wear her favorite outfit instead of a dress and feature nontraditional activities, such as skydiving.

The term anti-bride was frequently used in 2023 to describe a nontraditional wedding trend that was popular at the time on social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest.

The anti- in anti-bride is used in the sense of “opposite to” or “opposing.” Anti-bride weddings are typically most popular among people who don’t like traditional weddings or want their wedding to be unique by being unconventional.

The term anti-bride has been used to describe intentionally nontraditional weddings since at least 2001. However, the term became more popular in 2023, being used often on social media to refer to a popular nontraditional wedding trend. Media outlets also used the term anti-bride to refer to this trend.
