New Ways To Say “I Love You”

All the feels

When you want to tell someone you care about them, the standard “I love you” normally does the trick. But, the youngest generations (you know, the Millennials and Generation Zers) have their own forms of communication, especially when it comes to their feelings.

Here are ten ways these generations express their love and compassion when “I love you” just won’t do.

It’s been said food is love (right, NPR?). Well, Millennials and Gen Zers know a thing about that.

When these generations are in love, they go above and beyond their own self-interests and needs to consider those of others. A simple “Are you hungry?” is akin to that heartfelt concern you hear from your parent. It is a basic need, just like love . . . and your partner has your needs covered.

It may seem like a small concession, but giving up entertainment-decision rights isn’t just a token.

Let’s face it, it’s not always easy to compromise on what to watch, especially when all you can think about is how The Handmaid’s Tale could be a real, distant future and what will happen in the next episode. However, when a Millennial or Gen Zer truly cares for someone, they will make the sacrifice to watch something their boo may have been thinking about all day too.

However, the real binding factor in a relationship is when you both like the same TV show and love watching it together.

And, nothing says “I love you” like waiting to binge-watch the latest season of Game of Thrones with your special someone. Millennials and Gen Zers are big on sitting in front of their screens and binging their favorite TV series, but when they wait to do it with someone else, they are serious about the relationship.

Who isn’t all about streaming these days, but if you’re partner wants to share their passwords with you, they are just as crazy about you as they are about their favorite on-demand service. And, it proves they are starting to trust you too.

We’re sensing a TV theme to this list, no?

These days, Millennials and Gen Zers are all about having goals. Or, at least posting about them online (hello, #goals).

But, if they incorporate a person’s name into their list of goals (for example: “in a relationship with John #goals”), that’s pretty big. Top that off with adding the phrase, AF (the abbreviation for the expression “as f&*k”) and this means love is really in the air.

What do your favorite snack and your favorite person have in common? Your love and devotion, of course.

When you compare your significant other to those crispy golden french fries you can’t get enough of, (“I want to love you forever, my little french fry”) there’s no doubt you are obsessed—with the food and the person.

Sometimes, it’s less of what a person says and more of what a person does that shows they care. For example, silencing a phone is an act of common courtesy toward the one you’re with (and major self-control on your part). By doing this, you show you care about the person and are invested in what they are saying.

Now, don’t ruin it by keeping the phone on vibrate . . . .

When someone says “GOAT,” they are referring to the greatest of all time. So, if the person you’re dating really likes you and your style, they may say you’re GOAT at relationships. Baa, that’s love.

If your boo wraps their arms around you while using the word tight to describe your relationship, (“you and I are tight”) you’re golden. This expression means you two have a close bond. Ain’t no slack about it.

If you got tagged in an #instalove post, that means you just had an instant connection (or love) with someone you just met. You crushed that first date or meet cute.

Now on the to the real “I love you”?
