McCullers, Carson

  1. A twentieth-century American writer whose short stories and novels, set mainly in the South, portray the spiritual loneliness of outcasts and misfits. Her first novel, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, was published when McCullers was twenty-three. The Member of the Wedding was adapted for a memorable Broadway play and a 1952 film.
