1. A political leader of the twentieth century, and a grandson of John D. Rockefeller. He was governor of New York from 1957 to 1971 and sought the Republican nomination for president several times. Rockefeller was known as a moderate or liberal Republican. He served as vice president under President Gerald Ford.
