Since then Roraima has been visited by two or three other travellers; but their accounts have added little to our knowledge.

Indeed, the mountain of Roraima and all its surroundings are looked upon as weird and uncanny.

These are undoubtedly the ‘white eagles’ that are asserted by the Indians to be the ‘guardians of the lake’ on the top of Roraima.

Only when they came to the ridge from which the first view of Roraima is to be obtained did any of the party exhibit curiosity.

And so, as Roraima frowned upon them, they frowned back, and returned in kind its gloomy and unfriendly greeting.
