or angry face with horns emoji or devil horns emoji or imp emoji [ang-gree feys with hawrns ih-moh-jee]
What does 👿 mean?
Not exactly intimidating, the angry face with horns emoji implies an angry frustration or a reaction to an event, person, or news that is irritating, upsetting, or annoying.
Not really used to convey true malevolence or threat, this character can be a bit devilish and mischievous; it even implies a pouting mood, signaling a bit of toddler mayhem ahead. Actually, that is terrifying!
Where does come from?
The angry face with horns emoji was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the original name “Imp,” and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
This emoji is part of the “monster” set of emoji, which includes a ghost, alien, skull, Japanese ogre, and goblin. Its counterpart is the smiling face with horns emoji, which is also purple on iOS, orange on Android, and red on the Windows platform, as shown on the graphic from Emojipedia below.
We think the HTC version shown here accurately reflects the terrifying toddler vibe though.
Who uses ?
Used mostly to express extreme unhappiness or disappointment, the angry face with horns emoji gets the point across pretty quickly.
It’s used in posts about everything from sporting events to one’s love life and is also used to express friskiness and flirtation, scary moods, frustration, and a (friendly) sense of menace.

Sometimes, it’s used just to set a dark mood. Halloween offers a lot of opportunity for the devilish emoji!
After a break, happy to be back on AfterDarkRadio @DnbAfterDark this Thursday night from 8pm.

It’s also used to express a naughty mood. Or maybe just a purple one!
Offset with hearts, this emoji easily loses what little sense of terror it tries to convey:
I will have my revenge…👿😂

But, if used in the right context, the purple emoji does manage to express just a tiny bit of terror:
The Demon is back👿👿👹👹 pic.twitter.com/PMR3chih4y
