Where does come from?
The man emoji was approved in 2010 under Unicode 6.0 along with other people emoji such as the girl, boy, baby, and woman emoji.
Apple and WhatsApp, for instance, display the man emoji with blonde hair and a mustache. Others platforms like Samsung and Facebook feature brown hair. Google’s design notably lacks a mustache.
The default skin tone for the emoji is yellow, but users have the option to change skin tone … except on older platforms that don’t support those modifiers. Time for an upgrade.
The man emoji shouldn’t be confused with the boy emoji 👦, who lacks a mustache, or the old man emoji 👴, who lacks a full head of hair.
While the man emoji can be and is used on its own, platforms sequence it with many other emoji to produce a wide range of other male forms. The man emoji 👨 plus the cooking emoji 🍳, for instance, yields the man cook emoji 👨🍳, which up-to-date operating systems transform into a single image, because technology.
These magic transformations also create diverse family configurations and relationships other than the traditional husband-wife partnership or father-mother parents. For instance, the family: man, man, girl, girl emoji, 👨👨👧👧, shows two daughters whose parents are two dads, sequenced with two girl emoji and two man emoji.
Who uses ?
The man emoji can be used alone on social media and in text messages relating to things related to adult men, such as work or “acting like a man.”
