aura farming
[ awr-uh fahr-ming ]
What does aura farming mean?
Aura farming is a slang term that describes curating one’s own image or style to elevate social status or gain attention online. The term combines aura — which in the modern sense refers to charisma, style, or personal energy — with farming, in this scenario describing cultivation or deliberate effort.
Aura farming gained popularity because of the viral “boat kid” meme, which showed a young man dancing at the end of a racing boat in Indonesia. The kid’s confidence was widely referred to online as an example of “farming” one’s aura.
