Wednesday Winner: Eleemosynary

Today’s Word of the Day was chosen by a few people for a variety of reasons. William S. in Cocoa, Fl., and Ken R. of Easton, PA, both chose the word because not many people have heard of it. Jack F., of Lexington, KY liked it for the way it sounds while James B. of Palmerston North, New Zealand said it’s an “amusingly complicated word.”

Finally Stephen K. of Manhattan Beach, CA learned the word when he was a kid and asked his father for money, to which his father replied, “Son, do you think I run our home like an eleemosynary institution?”

Eleemosynary means “of or relating to charity; charitable.”
