Where does MILF come from?

The acronym MILF first appeared in the early 1990s. Linguist Laurel (L.A.) Sutton documented the term in a 1992 research paper on undergraduate slang, noting that it is offensive and objectifies women.

The term gained widespread popularity after the 1999 teen comedy American Pie, which used it to describe the appeal of Stifler’s mom, played by actress Jennifer Coolidge.

MILF inspired many related terms including DILF (dads), GILF (grandparents), and SMILF (single moms).
