1. The best, as in Mom's chocolate cake is second to none. Shakespeare was among the first to use this term in The Comedy of Errors (5:1), when Angelo speaks warmly of Antipholus of Syracuse: “Of credit infinite, highly belov'd, second to none that lives here.”
