Emoji experts may know the July 17 is also the day marked on most versions of the Calendar emoji 📅. Why? Apple marked July 17 on all of their calendar-based emoji as a shoutout to their old calendar app iCal, released back in 2002. Other companies followed Apple’s example and so Emojipedia.com logically chose July 17 to be World Emoji Day in 2014.
